CMC: Conceptual Music Competition This competition is based on the rules of the classic TOMC (Thematic Original Music Competition). The CMC (Conceptual Music Competition) is designed so that each participant enters a piece of music based on a set theme. The participants take the theme and interpret it as they will to come up with something that fits. Any style can work, as long as it portrays a sense of what the theme is. Feel free to be imaginative! Each successive theme will be chosen by the winner of the previous competition. For example, say the theme of the last competition, CMC 12, was "Tsunami" and the winner, Pauline, submitted a piece that knocked the socks off of everyone, so she won. Pauline then gets to decide the theme for CMC 13. This competition is open to registered members of the forums of |

CMC 2:
Bad Magic Results! There are 3 entries for this round... Reaktorz0 - "Hey, This is My Song" "A friend of yours wants to bring his girlfriend back to life, so he decides to cast an ancient forbidden spell that can change the course of time, despite all the warnings from you and your team. Actually, the spell merges every era together, makes everything that was, everything that is, and everything that will be coexist together at the same time... it actually flattens the whole time scale for everyone, thus making dinosaurs, ancient demons, space aliens with lasers, punks with broken bottles and baseball bats, mutants, robots, wizards, dragons, cavemen, and an obvious problem of overpopulation bring devastation everywhere in the world." Abadoss - "The Apprentice and the Words" "The mischevious apprentice of a master wizard sneaks into his teacher's study. He looks for the largest, most imposing, and powerful-looking book of spells he can find. Placed on a dias in front of the shelves rests an ancient tome. He picks it up and begins to read. The letters, resentful to be read by such a lowly wizard, resist and shuffle and move about on the page. Finally, he finds one spell that looks exciting - and has, so far, remained stationary. He begins to recite the words, only to find that he no longer has control of what he's saying! The spell has taken over him, forcing him to cast lesser spells and enchantments before finally casting itself - an evil spell of fate worse than death. In the face of utter desperation and dispair, the young apprentice somehow manages to close the book with every last ounce of strength he can muster. The spell stops short and the apprentice collapses, panting for breath on the floor... with his master now looking over his shoulder..." Gimgak - "Writual" "(0:10)A cult of wizards begins to gather around a Stonehenge type thing. The wizards are moving around preparing for a ritual. (1:30) The wizards, who are in a circle, began to chant in unison. (1:50) A ball of red energy appears in the middle. (1:59) The ball shoots up into the sky lighting it with a crimson red color. (2:19) Silence as balls of fire begin to fall from the burning sky. (2:38) A couple fireballs crash into the ground. (2:47) It begins to rain fire all over the place. People in a local town are running in panic as their houses are being demolished. (3:26) The rain of fire slowly stops. (3:46) The town is in ruins, fires everywhere, no survivors."

Voting Rules!:
Voters will be allowed to pick a first place (3 points) and any number of honorary
mentions (1 point). Only one set of votes from any one voter will be accepted
and a person cannot vote for any one piece more than once. Corrections to votes,
from the original voter only, will be accepted, but corrections will void the
previous votes. Basically, a voter can vote and correct the vote, but only the
final form of that vote will be counted. Send all votes to Abadoss by e-mail
or PM. Please include any and all constructive critiques (not to be confused
with bashing) about them with your votes as well, so that there's always a sense
of growth in the artform. If you wish to remain anonymous, just state so in
your message. Thanks.
The voting period will last from the moment the entries are posted in the thread to the Saturday of the following week.
Any participant in the competition can vote, but not for their own pieces. However, in an effort to encourage voting among participants, any participant who votes will have 2 points added to their voting score.
Official Rules!:
1. Each piece must be originally
composed for this competition. Arrangements and remixes will not
be accepted. (Pieces composed by the participant prior to the competition
will not be accepted.)
2. Each piece must be
2:00 or longer and match the competition theme.
3. Only
one entry per person. Collaborations will be allowed, but each
collaborator may not submit any other pieces. (This also means that a person
cannot collaborate on two or more different pieces at the same time.)
4. A link to the entry piece
must be e-mailed or PMed to Abadoss prior to the deadline set for each competition.
DO NOT POST THE LINK IN THE THREAD!
5. Important:
Each file must be labelled accordingly: Composer_Name_-_Composition_Title_CMC#.mp3
(For example, if Arthur Dane submits a piece called "Too Much Salami"
to CMC 7, then his filename would be: Arthur_Dane_-_Too_Much_Salami_CMC7.mp3)
6. MP3 file format is required.
Know that even OGG will need to be converted into MP3. (If someone is unable
to do so themselves, Abadoss would be willing and able to do it for them.)
7. Entries should be accompanied
by a description and/or story to help listeners understand what the piece is
about. (Not required, though.)
8. All entries must be submitted
by n/a at 11:59 PM - PST, GMT-8.
