Virtualshock - It had some really bad clipping in the middle that irritated me. Gimgak - You're one of the only guys that didn't do the "sorrowful orchestra" interpetation of the theme, so while this song is good as well, I'm ultimately voting for you because this piece really stands out against the rest. First place: Gimgak ------- hotdogg ------- First place: Alex Smith Honerable mentions: Blue.Nocturne ------- Bundeslang ------- Hoboka - I like the beginning, but it's a bit noisy and too loud. I like the change at 0:45, nice instruments and good variation. quia - It really begins slow, but it's exiting. It takes long before something happends, but the built-up is good at some parts. At 2:00, the song is still not exploding. The ending is too calm and, yes, sad. Nishant Pawar - Not too exiting begin, I don't feel the chaos. The song is going nice, the samples are O.K., but I miss a real exploding part. Blue Nocturne - Nice intro, it feels sad. I like this part, nice built up to the second part. That part didn't impress me, the song is slowing down. The last part is too sad, but I have the 'song description' feeling. The end is a bit too calm. Blue Gordon - There's not much variation in the instruments you used, but you did some good sections. The song misses variation as well. Knives - Different intro as other songs. It's good stuff filled up with noise. I like the string at 1:11. The last part is boring Spacecowgoesmoo - Too calm start, drums are strong and the string is dominating. The 'nothing happends' part from 1:35-1:43 is too long. I like what you are doing after that, at 2:40 the song starts to live for a short time. The last 20 second should be left away. Alex Smith - I like the begin, after 1:00 the song is too calm, all sadness. At the end, I feel some hope. Virtualshock - Excellent intro. You are using very strong instruments. I also like the building up around 2:00. Too long silence at 2:52, I don't like the too long part after that Gimgak - Good beginning, I don't like the change at 1:30, the part after that is all the same. The ending is good. First place: Blue.Nocturne Honerable mentions: Virtualshock ------- Spacecowgoesmoo ++ ------- HoboKa - Very cool intro, especially the distorted guitar bit, and the evil synths as well. It's a bit repetitive (AAAB), but I didn't notice it until the fourth time through, so it doesn't matter :D The song description really helps this song out a lot, kinda makes it almost comedic, instead of just random evilness. Great instrumentation as well. I don't really like the ending though, it kinda seems like a fadeout on a radio show, where they cut the song off at the first usable place. I want to know what happens at the end! quia - (Checks Gyakuten Saiban 2 Soundtrack for reference... [XD]) The cue from Bach really sets the mood here well. Maybe the style is a bit too similar in the beginning though. The air raid sirens fix the orchestral feel though :). I like the pulsing electronic thing in the middle, good atmosphere. Ending with the violin again... I think that the song's based too much on those 3 famous notes. Great wind effects at the end, lotsa atmosphere in this one. Nishant Pawar - Good mix of synth and strings. Not as memorable as the others; there's no distinct melody except for the one repeated string line. I think it needs more of a climax, it just repeats at 1:00 with a bit of a variation. I don't think it really stands alone very well, but this'd work great for a film or a game. Blue.Nocturne - VERY well written song, probably the best here IMO; I wish you did a more active Armageddon plot, though. Meh. 1:15 - 18 is my favorite part in this competition, but the rest is really mellow for the theme... Not much to say here, it's pretty much perfect, but the storyline's not my favorite. I'd definitely give you 1st place if Gimgak didn't have nostalgia from my favorite game EVER in his song. Blue Gordon - It's alright, I think it needs more dynamic contrast. Maybe bring out the melody more, it's there, but the other parts are too distracting from it. At :46, the B part, there's no way to discern the transition aside from the melody; I didn't notice the change the first time through. Transition at 1:17 is much nicer, as is the melody and the overall feel of it. Knives - Jungle SFX might confuse me a bit but all the Metal Gear Solid 3-y synth sounds balance it. (Sorry for all the game references. It's what I know best. SNAAAAAAKE!!!!!) It's kinda like Nishant's piece, in that it repeats midway instead of development or climaxing; I think either of those would help this. This one doesn't have much melody either, but I think you pulled it off well. Alex Smith - FF9!!!! Be careful with lots of pizzicatos now, VGM people like me will match that to Final Fantasy 9 pretty easily. Set the tone for the whole thing actually, it all sounds like FF9 now.. Especially 1:40. Still, that's a good thing. The melody sounds too :D to be post apocalyptic (This song = Fallout?), but that depends on your worldview, I guess. Virtualshock - Very good storytelling with this song, it paints the storyline perfectly. Also, best example here of not using much melody. My favorite part is the C part, nicely depressing and hopeless. Not much else to say here.. hm... yeah, I need to bump my top 3 for this one. Sorry HoBoKa! Gimgak - OK, this is my favorite style of music for this. Exactly what I imagined 1st place should be. Fast, lotsa percussion, synth/orchestral, and it's video game-y, which I love. Also, check out the old PC Shmup 'Tyrian' (now open source too, for non PC people), it sounds EXACTLY like this, especially the instruments and melodies at 2:06 and 2:16, and is probably my favorite game ever. Advice.... well, maybe if I didn't like synth I could say something here, but I can't think of anything to fix. Base a soundtrack off of this!
