First place: Kirill Podzorov ------- Omri Lahav ------- Brandon Strader - This piece had an amazing introduction, and to be honest I was a little let down to hear the composer chose to present it with heavy metal, it just sounds way over the top for my liking... Jeff Rettew - I am sorry, but I am not entirely sure sound design and programming belong in a composition competition. Kirill Podzorov - It's such a shame that you didn't bother explain this piece's connection to the story, personally I made a few connections of my own, but it'd be better if I knew how you meant it - that's the whole idea of making *conceptual* music. But I like the music enough to award first place anyway, some motiffs remind me of my favourite Russian composers, and the overall production value is good. One thing though, the violins playing tremolo throughout the piece are annoying. Try loading another sample for clean bowed violins and alternating between the two. Divine Wrath - This piece was even more over the top for me, I don't know what about this theme called out to composers to play heavy metal... First place: Kirill Podzorov ------- lars dobbertin-king ------- Brandon Strader - I think that this piece was clever, and a successful fusion of different metal themes. If I had to pick a weakness, it would be that the piece relies too much on a easy lounge drumset, which is not really suited to the musical style or theme. Jeff Rettew - The composition is awkward and experimental, often a little uneasy - perhaps I would have liked a little less ambiance as I didn't understand how the picture or description would convey this. Kirill Podzorov - Despite a overdose of tremolo in some of his strings, this piece was very clever in the way in which it built up an atmosphere and there were some quite clever yet familiar tunes in there. Again an honorary mention. Divine Wrath - You clearly had a similar idea to Brandon and the piece does not suffer from this problem. Clever tune, I like the bass in particular. So an honorary mention there. First place: n/a Honorable mentions: Divine Wrath and Kirill Podzorov ------- virtualshock ------- Brandon Strader - Pretty good, could use some more colorful instrumentation. the moments at 1:14 and 3:18 didn't seem sad at all--much to happy for an abortion. although they provided contrast I don't really didn't like those parts at all--although its hard to critique because this really isn't my style of music. Jeff Rettew - You create a very stirring sound scape, but I think a lot of its meaning is due to the voice samples-not the music. Kirill Podzorov - Very nice, colorful, splendid, charming, whatever. Would work well in a movie. Divine Wrath - I really like the middle section, good work! First place: Kirill Podzorov Honorable mentions: Divine Wrath
